The Holy Quarantine

During this Covid-19 pandemic, almost a majority of the people all over the world have found themselves in a state that their movements are being restricted. A situation that has commonly come to be known as quarantine.

This might not be the first time for people to be restricted from moving out. It has happened several times incase the environment outside is not safe for the survival of human beings. It started during the times of the Old Testament

During the times of Moses when he had been sent to Egypt to deliver the nation of Israel from captivity and during the last plague, all the Israelites were required to stay in their house as the Lord  was to pass during the Passover night killing all the firstborns of the land of Egypt.

Exodus 12:22

   And you shall take a bunch of hyssops, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning.

But the good thing is that instead of the nation of Israel starting to complain about the restrictions, They were to use that time to honor the word of God while in their houses by keeping this service and not getting out anymore as instructed.

We also during the Covid-19 pandemic can decide to take time for prayer.

A quarantine period can be a good period of one reading and meditating on the word of God for better understanding. It can also be an appropriate time to commit ourselves to prayers for us, our families, and the whole human race all over the world.

When Jesus Christ had resurrected, He laid quarantine measures to His disciples  that no one should leave Jerusalem until they received the promised power of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:4

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;

I believe some disciples might have wanted to go out of Jerusalem maybe to meet their friends or relatives but they decided to remain in Jerusalem. But the good thing is that as they waited for the Holy Spirit, they congregated in the upper room for prayer.

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.( Acts 1:12-14).

We can use this time of quarantine effectively by choosing to glorify God as we are supposed to represent God in season and out of season.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father we thank you in all seasons, we know that you are still God and  still on the throne despite the times and the seasons that we are passing through. Help us to always shine as light in this world whichever the season. We thank you because we know that we will come out of this season bigger and bigger having grown strong in your knowledge. In Jesus name pray.
