Tackling Impatience

2 Thessalonians 3:5

Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.

Most things in life have been made to run fast. Starting from the technological inventions to the current lifestyle. This may cause us to believe that everything will always move at  the pace we desire.

If we are not careful we may lose patience when we see things running slowly. God on the other hand requires us to have patience in life.

Patience has a lot of benefits  as it enables us to receive the promises of God.

That you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises
— Hebrews 6:12

Jesus Christ is our perfect example of patience because He is constantly waiting for those who haven’t believed in Him to be reached by the gospel so that they can hear it and  get born again.

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
— (2 Peter 3:9

If we are called the ambassadors of Jesus Christ it means that we should always bear the heart of patience towards one another. We should therefore not be quick to judge or condemn one another but patiently giving them a chance in life.

There are lives that can be saved if we practice patience towards one another, conflicts in marriages can be solved, relationships healed and promises received, only through patience.

How to deal with lack of patience:

  1. Trusting God in everything.

One of the greatest demonstrations of lack of trust in God is when you become impatient. Patience goes hand in hand with faith and trust in God.

Those who trust God will wait upon Him because they will know that though the situations may tarry, one day they will just come to pass.

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfillment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day.”

(Habakkuk 2:3)

2. Pray for God to grant us the fruit of patience through His Spirit.

God is always ready to grant us whatever we pray for. If someone is struggling with lack of patience they should trust God in prayer. And God who liberally gives us all what we ask for will grant us patience.

After trusting God we should be ready to practice our patience as circumstances that will need us to be patient will emerge in our lives as God will want us to grow to a level that we not only proclaim with our mouths that we are patient but we show it by our actions.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, the Lord of all patience, we thank you for the patience that you have shown us by even waiting for us patiently till we received the gospel for us to get born again.

May you help us through the power of the Holy Spirit to develop patience in our hearts. That we may be patient towards people and situations around us. We trust you that you are already doing it and it is in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
