Dealing with Feelings of Vengeance
Have you ever been offended and the only thing you seek is payback? As they say an eye for an eye, that becomes your slogan.
But do you ever stop and think that if everyone could be paying back every bad thing that has been done to them how could the world be.
If God could be paying back every evil we commit to Him who could survive?
“He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;”
(Psalms 103:9-11)
Is God really happy when we become vengeful? When Jesus Christ had begun His earthly ministry He had to bring a new order not according to what the Law of Moses had commanded
You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
“If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.”
(Mathew 5:38-41).
How then should we deal with the people who offend us?
Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.
(Luke 6:28)
Blessing those who curse us.
When people curse you the only way to pay back is to bless them. Invoking blessing and happiness upon those who curse you wishing them all the blessings of God.
I know it may be a hard thing to do naturally but it carries a lot of blessing for those who obey the word of God.
Jesus Christ becomes our example of how we are supposed to react to how people treat us.
“Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;”
( 1 Peter 2:23)
Pray for those who spitefully use you.
Jesus Christ taught of praying for all that spitefully use us. This means that in our prayers we should always remember to pray for them.
This is the only remedy that will cause those who seem to be against us to repent. As you would be like heaping coals of fire on them.
“If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, And the Lord will reward you.”
(Proverbs 25:21-22).
We should realize that vengeance only belongs to God and not for us.
""For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.””
( Hebrews 10:30)
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ we thank you because of your word. We know that you word is true. Help us to always obey your word that instructs us not to be vengeful in every circumstance in our lives as vengeance only belongs to you. We praise you in Jesus name, Amen.
