Dealing with Fear
Fear is the unpleasant feeling triggered by the perception of danger. Have you ever been controlled by fear at any given point in life?
People controlled by fear cannot be effective in serving God as God requires boldness in every aspect of our lives. That is why Jesus Christ gave us the Holy Spirit of boldness.
.
When Jesus Christ was speaking to His disciples about the suffering that He would undergo before He could be crucified, some disciples didn’t have the knowledge of how intense this suffering was to be.
It reached a time that Jesus Christ went with them to the garden of Gethsemane to pray because He knew what was ahead of them all of the disciples were weak and the only thing they could do was to sleep.
Then it came to the hour that Judas came with a great multitude with swords and clubs, they came from the chief priest and the Scribes and the elders.
And when the disciples saw this, they were dominated by fear and they had to run away. Then they all forsook Him and fled. It is so surprising that even after Jesus Christ preparing them for what was ahead of Him they all had to run away.
But Peter followed secretly to see what would happen to His master. Jesus was then taken to the courtyard of the high priest.
Now while in the courtyard one of the servant girls saw Peter she looked at Peter and said,
At this moment fear also dominated Peter because He thought that he would face the same punishment with Jesus Christ, Peter chose to deny Jesus Christ three times because of fear.
This is how fear can do in our lives. It can make us not stand up and defend what we know.
Believers in Christ Jesus are always reminded to be strong as not only will they pass through good times but tough times will definitely come into their lives.
How to deal with fear in our Christian lives.
Asking God in prayer to fill us with the power of His Spirit.
As we have seen that the Spirit of God is not of fear but of power, but of love, power and sound mind. Therefore we should always be praying to God to fill us with the spirit.
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
(Luke 11:13)
The same Peter who had denied Jesus Christ after receiving the power of the Holy Spirit stood up with boldness in the midst of the multitude and proclaimed the gospel without fear.
And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said,
Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus
(Acts 1:15-16)
2. Always approach the throne of God with boldness.
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
(Hebrews 4:16).
God needs us to come before Him in prayer with boldness. This is because in Christ Jesus we have been justified by faith in and we have peace with God.
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
(Romans 5:1-2).
God is pleased when we approach Him with confidence as we will receive what we have asked for in prayer.
