Forgiveness

Luke 17: 4,

“And if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

Jesus told us that if we resist forgiving those that have wronged us in any way, our heavenly Father would not forgive us our transgressions. Jesus Christ is telling about the willingness to forego bringing earthly repercussions upon us for the sins we commit as a believer. One primary reason to forgive others is to remember that our heavenly Father forgave us when we asked, irrespective of the transgression. What if the person refuses to ask for forgiveness? It’s tough because if that request is never made, then the offended person cannot communicate forgiveness. You have to choose to love the transgressor regardless of their sin and hold no grudge against them in your heart.

We should also forgive ourselves; some people lack forgiveness toward themselves for an act they did or a word they said in the past. They don’t want to forgive themselves and to realize that God says,

As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us
— Psalm 103:12

If you’re a believer, Christ has already cleansed your conscience from the works of sin as a new creature so that you might serve Him. God cleanses us for His service to erase the guilt of past sin. That should be buried and forgotten; we’re now a different being. If our heart does not condemn us, the Bible says,

we have confidence toward God
— 1 John 3:21

It would be wrong if we continue living in sin and expect forgiveness.

1 John 1:7

If we walk in the light, and forgiveness, then the blood of Jesus Christ is continuously washing us from all sin

You need to always look into your life daily, our behavior, our ways of living, and our feelings, attitudes, fear. An inside look is useless if honesty with God and with self is left out. An honest examination is essential for confession in the way of genuine repentance.

Prayer:

Father Lord, I want to thank you for your grace and mercies. I know you’re a forgiving God, gracious and a compassionate savior, slow to anger and filled with love. Thank you Lord for your unending love and that has never ceased to protect us and bind us in unity in forgiveness. Whatsoever have done, I accept your forgiveness, Lord, and I forgive myself. Give us the spiritual, psychological, and emotional strength to apologize to people and seek their forgiveness when we offend people. Help us, Lord Jesus, to put away resentment, hostility, anger, bitterness, and hurt so that we may reconcile with those who have wronged us and whom we have wronged. Father Lord, help us to practice the act of forgiveness every day in our lives and switch our anger and resentment to a ministry that will glorify the name of the Lord.
