Exchange Jealousy With Hope in God

Are things stuck or seems not to be working well in your life compared to the people around you? Or when you look around you see your friends excelling in every aspect and your situation has remained the same?

This is the time for you to be rather careful as the devil can easily trick you to develop evil thoughts and become jealous of the people around you. Jealousy is having feelings of insecurity, fear or lack of possessions or safety.

Among the first incidences of jealousness in the bible is seen between the two children of our first parents. These are Cain and Abel.

Genesis 4:4-5

Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

Abel had not played any role in deciding on what Cain would offer to God as a sacrifice yet Cain became jealous when his offering was rejected. So Cain is ruled by jealousness and goes on to kill his brother even after being warned by God.

We can deal with jealousness by:

  1. Trusting God to supply to us what we need.

God is the sole supplier of everything we need in life. And the Bible says that He is not a respecter of persons neither is our God bias.

Instead of being jealous of what God has done in other people’s lives, we can use that energy in praying to God and trusting Him to provide to us what we need.

This is what God told Cain,

“if you do well, will you not be accepted?”

(Genesis 4:7)

Maybe there are things in life that we don’t have because we haven’t asked God.

You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.

(James 4:2).

The brother to the prodigal son was so jealous that his brother had wasted his wealth and yet his father had slaughtered a calf on his return only to hear from his father that all that the father had was his.

This means that sometimes God may be willing to provide all that we need but the problem is that we spend a lot of time being jealous and not asking from Him.

2. Thanking God for His faithfulness in other people’s lives.

Instead of being jealous of what other people have or have achieved in life, it should be a time to thank God for His faithfulness. This is having a perspective that if He is the same God that  did it in other people’s lives, He is also able to do it in your life.

This is how to develop faith in God. How will it be that all believers around us are not progressing? The faith that we trust a God who delivers and blesses will be highly affected.

But thanks be to God that when we search in the scriptures we see many people who were in desperate situations in life, some with great diseases, closed wombs some were facing great dangers in life but eventually God came through and healed, protected and restored. When we read this, our faith is increased and we have hope in God.

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

(Romans 15:4)

Prayer:

Our God we thank you because there is no partiality with you, you are a God who is just and faithful. Help us not to be jealous of what others have achieved in life.

This is because we trust you that if you did it for them you are able to do it to us also if we put our trust in You. We chose to thank You for your faithfulness in other people’s lives. We love you and we trust you and it is in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
